We believe the gardens we create should reflect the lifestyle, taste and personality of our clients; we do this by listening and responding with experience, rather than by imposing our preferences. From this we create a garden that is inspired by you.

Our aim isn’t modest, our aim is to improve your life! A personally tailored garden will draw you outside and amongst beautiful natural things – a recipe proven to be life enhancing.

Richard Arnott

Richard has spent the last 25 years working in horticulture in Cambridge and the surrounding area. He trained at Cambridge University Botanic Garden in 1992 and studied garden design at Merrist Wood College, Surrey in 2001.

“I loved being outside as a child making and growing things. It seemed only natural that I would make a career out of something that I enjoyed so much.”

After spending several years working for other companies notably as landscape foreman at Hinxton Hall, he set up his own business in 1999.
“I always look for the potential when I visit a new garden project. The challenge is to make the most of the space whether large or small and to work with clients to achieve this. A strong design layout will define the garden and the planting brings it to life”

Sarah Ashworth

With an academic background in natural history, the highlights of Sarah’s young career were 2 years in Tanzania studying a troop of baboons, and 4 years at the Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology. Museum work made her yearn for living things (not stuffed, not pinned, not dried, please not pickled!), and she badly needed to channel her creative side.

In 2005 she made a change, and turned her attention to the living art-form of designing gardens. She studied RHS horticulture courses alongside a diploma in Garden Design and graduated from Plumpton College, East Sussex with a distinction. She then spent three years in the established practice of Nigel Philips Garden Design, which gave her the relevant experience to branch out on her own when she moved to Cambridgeshire.

She also still works as a sole trader: Sarah Ashworth Garden Design

The partnership

Richard and Sarah started to work together in 2013, and gradually built up to become a formal collaboration in 2019. Their skills are very complimentary, both are creative and both care about the people and the nature they serve. Richard’s long experience in the landscaping trade and confidence with planting, and Sarah’s technical and design skills combine to form a well-rounded team.

As with any successful partnership, they share the same main core values; family, nature and honesty.
